The city of St. Joseph and Buchanan County are in the process of updating the FEMA and NFIP flood maps for the area. For information on the review process and the appeal period, please visit the FEMA website.
The preliminary proposed Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) and the Flood Insurance Study (FIS) report for the community of St. Joseph can be viewed online. To view these items on the FEMA Map Service Center for Preliminary FEMA Map Products, first select the state of Missouri and then select the county of Buchanan. Next, visitors will be taken to a page which contains all the map panels (FIRMs) for the entire county of Buchanan. Scroll down to the end of the list to find the Flood Insurance Rate Map Index. This map index shows all of Buchanan County sectioned into all the individual FIRM’s with their specific map panel numbers written in the associated boundary. Find the panel number for your desired area and download that specific map. Each map contains a legend and flood hazard information on how to read the maps.
