If you are pregnant, quitting tobacco use is one of the most important things you can do for your health and the health of your baby! The City of St. Joseph offers the Baby and Me Tobacco Free (BMTF) program to pregnant and post-partum women and their partners who use tobacco products. Qualifications for the program are: 

• You are pregnant and less than 36 weeks gestation. 
• You are a current tobacco user, or a former tobacco user who quit since becoming pregnant or quit within three months before becoming pregnant (We will need a Dr.’s note to confirm previous tobacco use). 
• You are the partner (spouse, significant other, or family member) who lives with a pregnant woman in the BMTF program who also smokes/vapes and quits while enrolled in the program. 
• There are NO income restrictions or requirements, this program is open to any pregnant tobacco user in Buchanan County, Missouri. You do not need to be a participant in any other health department service or program to enroll in Baby and Me Tobacco Free.

How does the BABY & ME Tobacco Free Program work? 

• Attend 4 prenatal individualized counseling sessions, approximately 30-45 minutes each. 
• Quit smoking by the 3rd visit and stay tobacco-free during the rest of your pregnancy. 
• Attend 6 monthly post-partum counseling maintenance sessions. 
• Test tobacco-free during your post-partem visits. You are making new life-long habits! 
• Agree to take a tobacco test at each visit to determine eligibility for the gift card reward. (Gift cards awarded after successful tobacco-free test on prenatal visits 3 & 4 and all 6 post-partem visits). 
• Receive a $50.00 gift card to purchase anything in the baby department after you complete the 3rd & 4th prenatal visit and all 6 post-partum visits when you test tobacco-free. You can earn $400.00 in gift cards to shop in-store or online at Walmart! 
• If you are enrolled in the program and have a partner in the same household who smokes, they can earn gift cards for quitting, too! They can attend the 6 post-partum sessions to earn a $50 gift card each time they test negative for tobacco use for a total of $300.00 in gift cards! 
• Your family can earn $400.00 or $700.00 in gift cards for quitting tobacco use!
