Parks and Recreation Month

July is National Parks and Recreation Month. The city's parks department has planned special events to occur throughout the month at the various facilities with divisions hosting a week throughout the month. The celebration will begin a little early this year at the Remington Nature Center during the Herp-O-Rama event and a Saturday craft on June 29, followed later in the week by the Bird Bonanza on July 6.

Events planned at the Joyce Raye Patterson Senior Center start with a trivia tournament on July 2, from 12:30-2:30pm. This event is open to all ages and children must be accompanied by an adult. Registration for individuals and teams of up to eight can be done in person at the senior center or online. Other events at the center include Tuesday and Saturday night dances, and Nick Kohler will present his monthly health topic on July 3, beginning at 10am.

Events are currently being planned to celebrate at the Aquatic Park the week of June 29-July 6. The celebration will continue July 6-14, with events held at Fairview Golf CourseCivic Arena and Missouri Theater. The REC Center and the recreation division will celebrate parks month during the week of July 14-21, and Bode Ice Arena will celebrate July 25-31. To learn more about the scheduled events at each of the facilities, visit the city's calendar, the Parks, Recreation and Civic Facilities Facebook page, or the individual facility Facebook pages.
