School Resource Officers

School Resource Officers

The School Resource Officer (SRO) Program, a school-based community policing initiative, is an on-site school resource officer program. The program is funded through a cooperative effort of the Police Department and the St. Joseph School District. The SRO program continues to be the nucleus around which most of our juvenile programs are built. It provides for education opportunities as well as consistent positive interaction with the youth of the community, educators and parents. It also affords us the ability to be aware of juvenile problems on both an individual and group basis. The SROs have become a valuable source of information to investigators, patrol personnel, educators, etc., and most of our other efforts are usually tied to this foundational program.

Junior Police Academy

The police department holds a Junior Police Academy during the summer in hopes to spark an interest for children in starting a career in law enforcement. The week-long academy gives participants the chance to see first hand some of the skills and tools used by officers to investigate and solve crimes.
